Sandcastle Days are here! 🏖

Hey ya’ll, the Sandcastle Days festival is coming right up.

This festival is the annual chance for sand sculptors to work their magic on the beaches of South Padre Island while it’s not too not and not too cold.

👉 I’m a sucker for this kind of thing. Hitting South Padre Island every summer as a kid, I did my best to craft some badass sandcastles. But I must admit now that they were mostly just Hot Wheels race tracks, doomed sea levees, or abstract drip art.

I’d love to see what the pros can do.

I can’t make Sandcastle Days this year, but it’s officially on my list of stuff to do in Texas.

By the way, I found this festival on a list of Beaches That Are Even Better in the Fall right alongside La Jolla, Dubai, Costa Rica, Aruba, and Greece. So take that, Texas beach naysayers! 🤠

Stonehenge II

Okay, they built a new Stonehenge near San Antonio. It’s just like the real Stonehenge, but hotter and closer. 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is brilliant and stupid at the same time. But mostly brilliant.

I think we can all agree that some Spinal Tap is called for here.

In ancient times, hundreds of years before the dawn of history
Lived a strange race of people, the Druids
No one knows who they were or what they were doing
But their legacy remains
Hewn into the living rock, of Stonehenge

Cypress Falls Swimming Hole

Another great swimming spot near Wimberly. Perhaps an alternative to the Blue Hole if it’s full or you want to try something new.

Adding to my Texas swimming holes list.

10 Weird and Wonderful Places to Stay in Texas

Are you tired of sitting around the house during this pandemic? Do you want to get out somewhere fun and interesting but keep socially distanced?

If you’re in Texas and not ready to hop on an airplane or crowd into some cosmopolitan hotel, then this guide is for you.

👉 10 Weird & Wonderful Places to Stay in Texas

Would you like to spend your weekend in a treehouse high up in the cypress trees with a canopy tour to boot? Or perhaps in a teepee? Maybe being surrounded by gazelles, zebras, yak and emu sounds fun. Or maybe glamping in an Airstream at the beach is your cup of tea. Sleeping in a caboose is a choice. There’s also an old Spanish mission.

Okay, this all sounds like a Dr. Seuss book. I’m tempted to go back and make it rhyme. Maybe another time.

McKinney Falls

That shalt not forget McKinney Falls as a great day hike around Austin.

Blanco State Park

I’m excited about the European pool / spa tour, but you I don’t have to go that far away for a great swimming spot. Right here in Texas we have some more rustic and natural options. I’m officially starting a new series of Texas swimming holes for when summer rolls around again.

To kick things off, Blanco State Park. ☺️
